Investing for the future
Overview
Calls for urgency to secure our future are matched by apathy to act. Investing massively in the future is the condition for high, and above all fairer and more sustainable, growth. This will be based on long-term innovation and investment strategies which, in addition to financial profitability, will have to focus on social well-being and environmental preservation. But how can this be done? How can the cooperation of public and private actors be encouraged? In the current context, which reduces the room for manoeuvre of companies and public players, how can long-term investment be increased? What will be the relative place of physical and human capital investment? And what policies should be implemented to coordinate the various initiatives on a global scale? It is not enough to say that investments in the future are an imperative; we must above all ask ourselves how to respond, according to what priorities and what mode of governance.
