Bio

Pierre BOYER, 40, is a professor in the Economics Department at École Polytechnique, a researcher at CREST and an affiliated researcher at the Institut des Politiques Publiques, CEPR and CESifo Research Network. He defended his thesis in 2010 at the Toulouse School of Economics (TSE) and at the EHESS, then obtained an HDR at the Ecole normale supérieure Paris-Saclay. His work has been published in leading international journals (Econometrica, International Journal of Industrial Organization, American Economic Journal: Economic Policy, American Economic Review, Journal of Financial Intermediation, Journal of Mathematical Economics, Quarterly Journal of Economics...). In 2017, he won the Malinvaud Prize for the best economics article by a young economist, awarded by the AFSE, and in 2011, the Thesis Prize awarded by this association. His research interests include the implications of political competition on public policy priorities and regulatory frameworks (income tax reforms in OECD countries, European banking supervision reform), leading him, for example, to study the impact of social norms on willingness to pay taxes, or the effects of a political candidate's charisma on voter choice. His research is mainly academic in nature, but he has attracted attention, more widely, in an article devoted to the determinants of yellow vest mobilization in France. He has received numerous research grants (ERC, ANR) and is a member of the Conseil des prélèvements obligatoires at the Cour des Comptes. Nominated for the 2023 edition of the Best Young Economist Prize (PMJE)
