Jean-Dominique SENARD

Bio

An HEC alumnus and holder of a master’s degree in law, Jean-Dominique Senard began his career with various financial and operational responsibilities first within the Total Group from 1979 to 1987, then at Saint Gobain from 1987 to 1996. From 1996 to 2001, he was Chief Financial Officer and member of the Executive Committee for the Péchiney Group. He then headed the Group’s Primary Aluminium sector until 2005. Jean-Dominique Senard joined Michelin in March 2005 as Chief Financial Officer and member of the Group's Executive Committee. In 2007, he became Managing Partner of the Michelin Group, then Managing General Partner on May 13th, 2011. Jean-Dominique Senard then took over from Michel Rollier as CEO of Michelin until his term ended on May 17th, 2019. During this time, he focused mainly on improving the Group's economic performance through constantly and consistently implementing management principles that placed people at the heart of a company built to empower. This fostered high-quality social dialogue that led, in particular, to ground-breaking regional social agreements within the Michelin Group. On January 24th, 2019, he was elected Chairman of the Board of Directors of Group Renault, then Chairman of the Board of the Renault Nissan Mitsubishi Alliance on March 1st of the same year. In March 2018, he presented the French government with a report he co-wrote with Nicole Notat on ‘The role of companies as the object of collective interest’. The report highlighted the role of corporate governance in establishing a corporate purpose, shedding light on a company’s fiduciary, social, and environmental responsibility and has since led to significant changes in French legislation (e.g., the ‘Pacte’ law). In April 2023, he presented the French government with an outcome paper from the National Conference on Work and Labour he co-wrote and co-sponsored with Sophie Thiery entitled ‘Re-considering Work’. Focusing on three main areas (‘Relationship to work’, ‘Democracy in the workplace’, ‘Health and quality of life at work’), the report outlined recommendations on ways to rebuild trust within companies. He is Lead Independent Director of Saint-Gobain, member of the supervisory board for the FIVES Group, and board director of the La Montagne-Centre France press group. He is also Colonel in the Réserve Citoyenne, under the 1st Foreign Cavalry Regiment. He is a Commander in the French Legion of Honour.
