Bio

Christophe Leribault has been Chairman of the Musée d'Orsay and the Musée de l'Orangerie since 5 October 2021. An art enthusiast from an early age, Christophe Leribault holds a doctorate in art history from the Sorbonne. He was a resident at the Villa Médicis (Académie de France in Rome) in 1995-1996. Curator of paintings and drawings at the Musée Carnavalet-Histoire de Paris (1990-2006), he was then deputy director of the Department of Graphic Arts at the Musée du Louvre (2006-2012), while at the same time directing the Musée national Eugène Delacroix (2007-2012), before becoming director of the Petit Palais- musée des Beaux-arts de la Ville de Paris (2012-2021). Under his leadership, the Petit Palais has developed considerably, thanks to the organisation of some remarkable exhibitions and a very active arts education policy that promotes dialogue between the museum's collection and contemporary art. Since his appointment as head of the Musée d'Orsay and the Musée de l'Orangerie, Christophe Leribault has pursued a committed policy of openness aimed at making these institutions places that are in touch with the concerns and questions of our time. Committed to multidisciplinarity, he is proposing a new approach to the Musée d'Orsay's itineraries and collections, enabling the public to grasp both the unity and the diversity of this period at the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century, during which our modernity was invented. In addition to this overhaul of the museum's itinerary, there will be a major effort to promote the collections and exhibitions, the development of artistic and cultural activities for families and children, the opening of the Research and Resource Centre at the Hôtel de Mailly-Nesle and the redevelopment of the Musée d'Orsay's reception areas.
