Committing to change the world
Overview
Commitment is everywhere. So is changing the world. Or, according to one variant, saving it. Basically, the question posed is intended to respond to Tolstoy’s observation in War and Peace: “Everyone thinks of changing the world, but no one thinks of changing himself”. The tumult of the moment leaves us wondering and could push us to withdraw, to cultivate our garden and only our garden. To withdraw from the world or to give priority to a more personal commitment. Even though all energies are required to recreate hope. So why get involved in the first place? Is it really necessary? Then how to get involved and with whom? Are associations and NGOs the only place for commitment? Can you get involved in your company for example? As a consumer? As an investor? To commit oneself alone or with others: are not all forms of collective action equally attractive? For what purpose? To change the world? Really? Or to change oneself? Get involved, get involved!
