At the age of 16, Frédéric Souillot obtained his diploma as a confectioner and ice-cream maker. He was drafted into the army and on his return in 1994 was hired by Schlumberger, which later became Tokheim. He was responsible for the maintenance and installation of service stations. He joined the FO and developed the union at Schlumberger, which quickly reached almost 70% representation. He became secretary of the local union in Beaune and was appointed as a trade union advocate at the industrial tribunal. He joined the FO metals federation in 2008 as federal secretary in charge of the steel and metals industry. In this capacity, he negotiated the ArcelorMittal agreement in Florange in 2012. He became confederal secretary in 2015 following the Tours Congress. He took over responsibility for trade union education, and then in 2018 for legal affairs and organisation. From 2018 to 2020, he chaired the AGFPN (Association de gestion du fonds paritaire national). He was elected general secretary of FO in June 2022 at the Rouen Congress.
