Algorithms and free will, what is the future of our freedom?

Algorithms, those finite and ordered sequences of instructions intended to solve a problem, are omnipresent in our daily lives. This is particularly true of artificial intelligence algorithms (AIA), which are capable of automating complex cognitive tasks that until recently were left to experts. Integrated into social networks, platforms and other software applications, AIAs analyze massive amounts of data to produce recommendations, predict crimes or recommend medical treatment. Developed by humans, they raise high expectations from users, who take them up widely because of their enforceable efficiency. Legitimately, these same users are concerned about the risks of manipulation, dependency and reduction of free will. This session debates the enabling and constraining capacities of IAAs by questioning their uses and considering their impacts on organizational and social governance models.
