What form will Tomorrow’s Power Take ?

Session 25

This session will look at the potential determiners of power in different countries or regions over the next fifty years. Will the world mainly be governed by the most innovative countries and those at the leading edge of technology, by countries that are well endowed with natural resources, or by the most populous or best-armed countries? Will competition between countries serve as a catalyst for economic and institutional development or will it discourage such development in less advanced countries? How important will soft power (cultural and institutional hegemony) be compared to hard power (based on relationships between strategic and military forces); and what about democratic regimes versus dictatorial administrations? How will the international community tackle demographic differences and migratory phenomena?
