Founded in 1959, the IDB has 48 member countries from the Americas, Europe and Asia.

Professional Experience:

President of the IDB (elected 2005, re-elected 2010). Ambassador of Colombia to the United States (1998-2005). Private equity investment advisor (1994-1998). Minister of Economic Development (1992-1994). President of the Instituto de Fomento Industrial (1991-1992). Nieman Fellow, Harvard University (1990). Executive producer of the TV Hoy news program (1980-1988).
