I got my PhD at Harvard in 1989, and have taught at Columbia, University College Dublin, Harvard, Trinity College Dublin and Sciences Po Paris. I am the Research Director of the Centre for Economic Policy Research, Europe’s most influential network of academic economists. I am a fellow of the British Academy and a member of the Royal Irish Academy, and serve inter alia on the Scientific Council of Bruegel, and the Comité scientifique, Autorité de contrôle prudentiel et de resolution, Banque de France. My research is in the fields of economic history and international economics, and I have written extensively on the history of globalization. I have also been involved in public debate in Ireland and Europe since the crisis began, in particular via the Irish Economy blog (www.irisheconomy.ie) and VoxEU.org. In my spare time I serve as a municipal counselor in the beautiful village of St Pierre d’Entremont (Isère).
