Scientific discoveries and technological breakthroughs shape people and societies alike. Many more revolutions are looming. Will tomorrow’s science favor the empowerment of individuals? Or will it generate new forms of social control? Will technical opportunities benefit each and all or will they be accessible only to the “happy few”? Should research be regulated? What about public funding, patent laws and ethical standards?
