Bio
Professor Rosabeth Moss Kanter received a BA (Bachelor of Arts) degree magna cum laude from Bryn Mawr College, with a visiting year at the University of Chicago, and MA and Ph.D. (Master of Arts and Doctor of Philosophy) degrees from the University of Michigan in sociology (organization studies and social psychology), which also later awarded an honorary doctoral degree, one of 24 she has received in the U.S. and Europe. She began her career as a tenured professor of sociology at Brandeis University and then moved to Yale University, where she was also a Professor in the School of Organization and Management, before joining Harvard University with a tenured, chaired professorship at Harvard Business School. She served as chief Editor of Harvard Business Review and, more recently, co-founded and was Chair and Director of the Harvard University Advanced Leadership Initiative. She also co-founded and led a consulting firm, Goodmeasure Inc., which managed her work outside of Harvard advising CEOs and government officials worldwide about innovation and economic development. Among numerous public service achievements, she recently was a member of the Governor’s Council of Economic Advisers for Massachusetts, and national advisory boards. She has received awards from the Academy of Management, the American Sociological Association, the American Society for Quality, and many others. In 2019 she received the Thinkers50 Lifetime Achievement Award, given in London in November.
