Bio
Astrid Álvarez is a Civil Engineer graduated from Universidad Javeriana. She holds a specialization in Environmental Management as well as a specialization in Purchasing & Supply Chain Management from Universidad de Los Andes, and a master’s degree in International Relations from Ohio University.
Alvarez has over 30 years of experience across various positions in prestigious organizations, among others as CEO of Grupo Energía Bogotá (GEB), a publicly listed energy group composed by more than 15 electric power and natural gas utilities, General Manager of Bogotá Water and Sewage Company and Administrative Manager of Ecopetrol – Colombia’s state oil company.
Being one of few women to reach the position of CEO in the Colombian business world, she led the transformation of GEB’s Corporate Government, achieving a 92% compliance with OECD recommendations and receiving national and international recognition for the company’s high corporate governance standards
Under her leadership, GEB expanded its presence in Latin America significantly with new acquisitions in Brazil and Peru, and the company stock price reached historic highs.
A key characteristic of her leadership is social awareness and genuine relationships with local communities. Today, Ms. Alvarez dedicates herself to consultancy on matters related to corporate governance, energy, local community relations and management.
