Which Education System for a Digital Society ?

How can we prepare the next generation for a future we can no longer forecast?
At first sight, the situation seems insoluble. And yet, under the impulse of new technologies now profoundly transforming lifestyles, a need to define the priorities between basic knowledge, critical reasoning abilities and social skills in more crucial than ever. In a rapidly changing environment, how can we modernise our education systems and ensure our children are equipped to deal with the world of tomorrow? Drawing conclusions from various experiments now under way in our education systems could be salutary.

For example, beyond the controversies over indicators such as the PISA test or Shanghai ranking, we now need to define desirable educational goals to prepare the next generation for an increasingly complex and unpredictable world. Should digital tools be part of the curriculum from a very early age? Should this issue be tackled at the nursery school stage? How can we train teachers as new skills requirements come into being? Is there a need, still, to teach “humanities”? Should the rapid obsolescence of digital tools convince us of a single necessity: that of “teaching to learn”?
