How to Protect Ourselves in a Risky World ?

The world is becoming more risky as cultural, geopolitical, technical and economic uncertainties continue to multiply, especially since our advanced societies become increasingly risk-averse. The session will begin by questioning both the subjective and objective dimensions inherent to this expanding and risky environment. It will then continue by analyzing the kind of protections best suited for these different situations.

Along the way, we will be confronted with the following burning questions: better risk education, on threats and opportunities, would probably be relevant, but are we able to? More ambitious regulation of new technologies would be useful for protecting private life, but would it be able to preserve our innovation and creation capacity? A clear governments’ commitment on global warming would significantly reduce the level of risk – but would that generate other risks? An ambitious reform of the welfare state would be necessary – but is it not utopian? The supply of new and better designed insurance products would be essential – but does the industry own enough dynamism to match such ambitions?
