Yoram GUTGELD

Member of the Italian Parliament, Economic Advisor to the Prime Minister - Italy

Having worked for IBM and briefly the RAND Corporation, he spent 24 years in Mckinsey & Co as senior partner and Director covering several leadership positions including Managing Director of the Firm’s Tel Aviv office which he founded, and leader of the European Retail Practice.

While still in Mckinsey he started collaborating with the Mayor of Florence Matteo Renzi helping him develop an economic program for Italy. He was elected to the Italian Parliament in 2013, and subsequently worked with Renzi to shape the economic policies of his government.

Over the last three years he has also assumed responsibility for overseeing a broad efficiency program of the Public Administration as Spending Review Commisioner. Italy’s cost performance over the last three years was second best within the 34 OECD member countries second only to Greece. The 30 billion Euro annual cost savings achieved (without firing public personnel or reducing social and pension entitlements) are based on structural measures such as centralization of purchasing. The spending review effort financed a 1,3% reduction in fiscal pressure as well as targeted investment in health care, education, security and poverty reduction.
