Jean Tirole is a founding member and Honorary Chairman of the Toulouse School of Economics (TSE) and the Institute for Advanced Study in Toulouse (IAST). He is also a visiting professor at MIT and a member of the Académie des Sciences Morales et Politiques. Jean Tirole holds honorary doctorates from 15 foreign universities and is a member of numerous learned societies. He was President of the Econometric Society in 1998 and of the European Economic Association in 2001. In 1993, he received the European Economic Association's inaugural Yrjö Jahnsson Prize (awarded every two years from 1993 onwards to the best European economist under the age of 45). In 2007, he was awarded the CNRS Gold Medal, the only economist alongside Maurice Allais to have received this honor. In 2008, he was the first recipient of the BBVA Frontiers of Knowledge Award in the economics, management and finance category. In 2010, he received the Claude Lévi-Strauss Prize, as well as the Finance Prize awarded jointly by the Berkeley Mathematical Institute (MSRI) and the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, and in 2013 the Ross Prize. In 2014, he was awarded the Nemmers Prize and the Bank of Sweden Prize in Economic Sciences in memory of Alfred Nobel. He is ranked number one economist in Europe (including the UK) in terms of citations, publications and h-index in the various existing rankings.
