Rebuilding the food system
Overview
The multiple crises on food security show that it is big time to rebuild the food systems so that they deliver constantly food that will be nutritious, accessible to all and preserving humans and the planet. Many directions are offered :shorter supply chain that reduce import dependence, diversifying food with « forgotten » crops ; reducing loss and waste along the supply chain, agro-ecology, innovation of drought-resistant crops, reducing the use of agrochemicals, organic agriculture, preserving water and biodiversity, restoring meadows and oceans.
However, this necessary transition has a cost : the opposition to the European Green Deal was such that its implementation is delayed. Many farmers are indebted and cannot earn enough. How can we garantee them a decent income without raising the cost of food to the consumers ?
What kind of choices do we have to make in order to ensure our food for today while preserving our future food ?
