Final plenary – Writing a shared story
Overview
Even though they are currently fragmented, our worlds are usually linked by economic ties that bind countries together. Reunited since 1945 within the United Nations, countries were also driven by the same objective of peace: in the aftermath of the Second World War, preserving peace at all costs was humanity’s primary narrative. Writing a common economic narrative was to help achieve this goal.
What common narrative and what values bring people together? Living together, the love one has for their country and history, solidarity with one’s neighbor, sharing: where do we stand in terms of these fundamental values that should reconcile us?
Two fundamental objectives for humanity should be written into the first chapter of our common narrative: preservation of peace, now under threat, and preservation of our planet, also under threat. What common narrative should unite our humanity and the peoples who make it ?
