Bio
Associate architect and urban planner Bertrand Schippan (Dunkerque - 1981) worked in a number of international offices, including FGP Atelier, Ateliers Jean Nouvel and West 8, before joining MVRDV in 2006. This diversity of experience in different contexts, and his equally international educational background, which includes the Ecole Nationale Supérieure d'Architecture in Lille, the Escuela Tecnica Superior de Arquitectura in La Coruña and the Technische Universiteit in Eindhoven, has shaped his versatile approach to design. At MVRDV, Schippan has played a key role in the development of projects of different scales - from single buildings to urban masterplans - constantly testing and challenging existing theories and methodologies to refine his own professional practice, and inspiring others under his guidance.
Among the many MVRDV projects, Schippan's decisive contribution to the Grand Paris project (2008) is a case in point. Having strategically supported MVRDV's efforts in France, he played a fundamental role in the establishment of MVRDV's Paris office and in the development of the La Part Dieu project in Lyon (2021), the Gaité Montparnasse project in Paris (2022) and several residential buildings in Bordeaux.
Outside his practice, Schippan is active in academia, mentoring graduate students in architecture and urban planning.
