Is a worldwide economic governance still possible?

Session 14 Amphi 4 July 5, 2024 15:45 - 16:45

Overview

Global economic governance covers collective actions or modes of organization of international relations, not only in terms of their intrinsic effectiveness in terms of trade development, economic growth or financial stability, but also in terms of power relationships between nations. While the global economy is fragmenting in response to the non-economic objectives of trade and industrial policies, the need for global economic governance has not disappeared, and this raises a number of questions. Who are the players involved in this reconfiguration? Should the reconfiguration of global economic governance be conceived on a global scale, including all facets of globalization, or should the regimes be multiplied on a “sectoral” level, distinguishing between them? And more operationally, how can we ensure that the various nation-states are represented democratically, equitably and realistically?
