Bio

Pierre Dockès' publications reflect his diverse interests and expertise, while adopting a central perspective of historical economics. He has published numerous works on subjects ranging from the place of economics in the thought of Thomas Hobbes to the social economics of Léon Walras, as well as on the importance of power and authority in economics, and on the sugar economy at the time of slavery (Le sucre et les larmes). He is particularly interested in the long-term evolution of capitalism, as well as its recent and ongoing transformations, crises and mutations. He has published a vast synthesis on this theme (Le capitalisme et ses rythmes). His notable works also include research on the sustainability of public debt, responses to populism, the economics of major epidemics (from plague to covid) and his contribution to the debate on resistance to technological violence. Professor of economics at Lyon 2 University, he has demonstrated his commitment to teaching and research. He founded the "Centre Walras" (now "Triangle") there, and for many years directed this research center on the history of economic thought, supervising the team responsible for publishing the complete works of Léon Walras (in recognition of his contribution to economic thought, he was made an honorary member of the European Society for the History of Economic Thought).
