Bio
Garance Genicot is Professor of Economics at Georgetown University. She is also Research Associate at the National Bureau for Economic Research (NBER), Research Fellow at the Institute for the Study of Labor (IZA) and at the Center for Economic Policy Research (CEPR), and president of the Theoretical Research in Development Economics (ThReD). Additionally, she is Associate Editor at Quantitative Economics. She received her B.A. in Economics from the University of Liege, Belgium in 1995 and her Ph.D. in Economics from Cornell University in 1999. She specializes in development economics. Her specific areas of research include risk sharing, informal credit markets, social networks, aspirations, inequality and women’s property rights. Recent works includes societal influence on aspirations, tolerance within social networks, women property rights, upward mobility, and gerrymandering.
