Bio


Martin Hirsch studied medicine for five years between 1981 and 1986. In 1983 he was admitted to the Ecole Normale Supérieure. He holds a DEA in neurobiology and a master's degree in biochemistry. He entered the ENA (promotion Jean Monnet) and joined the Council of State on graduation. In 1997, he was appointed Director of the Cabinet of the Secretary of State for Health and advisor to the Cabinet of the Minister for Employment and Solidarity. Between 1999 and 2005, he was Director General of the French Food Safety Agency. In 2005 he founded the New Active Solidarity Agency and became its President. In 2007 he was appointed High Commissioner for Active Solidarity against Poverty in François Fillon's government (2007-2010), then High Commissioner for Youth (2009-2010). He left the government in 2010 to become President of the Civic Service Agency until November 2013.

At the same time, he is actively involved in the fight against poverty and the promotion of solidarity and holds numerous voluntary positions. He was elected President of the Central Union of Emmaus Communities in 1995 and then President of Emmaus France in 2002. He was also, among other commitments, a member of the advisory committee of the High Authority against Discrimination and for Equal Opportunities (Halde) from 2006 to 2007, co-chair of the Action Tank "Enterprise and Poverty" and of the Social Business Chair at H.E.C since 2011. He is also President of the Institut de l'Engagement since its creation in 2012 and administrator of "La France S'Engage".
