Imagining the public services of the future
Overview
In a context of deep mistrust between citizens and their governments and institutions, imagining the public services of the future is an imperative to rebuild a contract of trust between citizens and the state. What do citizens expect from their public services? It is a question of making life easier for users by offering public services that are simpler and more accessible to all.
The profound changes brought about by digital technologies are a great opportunity to be seized in order to strengthen efficiency and consultation in the production of public services. New services can be invented and co-produced with civil society and the public and private sectors, and this is the real revolution of the platform state.
However, while new technologies present real opportunities for designing the public services of tomorrow, these services are also essential places of socialisation and cohesion for citizens. Digital technology alone will not be enough to meet these challenges, and it is important to imagine access to public services as a vector of social cohesion.
