Earmaking savings for growth
Overview
Financial wealth is a treasure that attracts. In France alone, it now amounts to 6,000 billion euros. Calls for savings to be redirected are all the more numerous as the savings rate has been high since the health crisis. The calls for earmarking are varied: sectoral (health, environment), temporal (long time rather than short time), institutional (innovative start-ups rather than established players), and even geographical (territories rather than large cities).
To build our societies of tomorrow, the time for choices has nevertheless come. The global context invites us to step up our efforts in certain areas: hydrogen to decarbonise our society, artificial intelligence to transform our activities, and industrialisation to ensure our independence. Once these choices have been made, the question of method remains: which institutional players should be mobilised (public, banks, funds, etc.)? How to guide without constraining?
Far from being trivial for our country, the priorities and method chosen are also decisive for capturing a share of foreign savings and thus accelerating our growth.
