Globalising health
Overview
Health is fundamental to the well-being of individuals. At the country level, the quality of public health is an important factor of social cohesion. But as the Covid-19 pandemic has shown, health can be a source of increasing divisions between countries. This session will aim to shed light on the following questions:Why did international cooperation attempts in the context of Covid-19 (ACT-A platform, COVAX scheme) fail to balance global immunisation coverage? What lessons can be learned?Should health be considered a global commons?
As the pandemic has highlighted our heavy dependence on Chinese and Indian companies for a number of medicines, are there already changes in the strategic choices of pharmaceutical companies in terms of procurement? What role can/should public action play in reducing the vulnerability of pharmaceutical supply chains?
