Bio
Benoît Cœuré took over as head of the BIS innovation hub in 2020. He is also a member of the Bank's Executive Committee. Previously, he was a member of the Executive Board of the ECB. From 2013 to 2020, he chaired the BIS Payments and Market Infrastructures Committee.
Before joining the ECB, he held various positions within the French Treasury and the French Debt Management Office. Between 2007 and 2009, he was Deputy Secretary for Multilateral Affairs, Trade and Development of France, Co-President of the Paris Club, and Financial Under-Sherpa of the G8 and G20 for France. From 2009 to 2011, he was Deputy Director General and Chief Economist of the French Treasury.
Mr. Coeuré is a graduate of the École Polytechnique de Paris. He holds an advanced degree in statistics and economic policy from the National School of Statistics and Economic Administration (ENSAE), and a bachelor's degree in Japanese.
He is the author of several articles and books on economic policy, the international monetary system and the economics of European integration.
