Facing the new order of globalisation
Overview
The outbreak of COVID-19 as a global health emergency and the resulting socio-economic crisis are testing global structures of co-operation. The challenges have given rise to new forms and expressions of transnational solidarity and partnerships. However, will the systemic challenges posed by the coronavirus crisis – and the responses we have seen so far – fast-track a transformation of the old development co-operation paradigm into a new model of international co-operation engaging all countries on an equal footing?
We have an unprecedented opportunity to rethink international co-operation as a tool to transform globalisation. Learning from what works and what does not and capturing innovative practices across the globe are a crucial part of this endeavour. What mechanisms do we need to facilitate a learning and sharing process to re-design international co-operation? What role can international institutions and regional bodies play in such a transformation? What are the barriers that prevent equitable co-operation and global representativeness today?
