For a passionate yet serene political debate
Overview
Even if one can witness reasonably passionate political debates such as the one between the candidates for the municipal election in Paris on the eve of the first ballot organized by LCI, a number of reasons explain a renewal of a discourse of violence in the broader political debate. The return of the social question, of a class discourse, has its origin in the almost ten-year stagnation since the 2007 crisis. When the size of the cake no longer increases, its distribution attracts more attention. The change in the global balance of power feeds a feeling of national downgrading in addition to the feeling of personal downgrading. The ecological emergency fuels a deafening concern about our collective future and highlights the powerlessness of politicians to commit themselves resolutely to a path that avoids chaos. Social media provide a sounding board for these concerns and a megaphone for these hatreds.
