Founder - Africa Check
Peter Cunliffe-Jones is the Founder of Africa Check, the leading fact-checking organisation in Africa, Senior Adviser to the Poynter Institute’s International Fact-Checking Network, and a Visiting Researcher at Westminster University. In more than 25 years as a journalist, most of it for the AFP news agency, he has lived in and reported from western Europe, the Balkans, west Africa and East Asia, where he was AFP’s Chief Editor for the Asia-Pacific from 2003-2006.
After founding Africa Check in South Africa in 2012, he helped in 2016 develop the Code of Principles that more than 60 independent fact-checking organisations adhere to today. He was a Shuttleworth Foundation fellow from March 2016 to February 2019.
His book « My Nigeria – Five decades of independence » , published in 2010, was called “a triumph” by renowned Nigerian author Chinua Achebe. He lives in London with his wife and son.
