Jean-Luc TAVERNIER

Director-General - INSEE

Both an alumnus of Ecole Polytechnique (French engineering grande école) and a graduate of the National School of Statistics and Economic Administration (ENSAE), Jean-Luc Tavernier has spent most of his career at the French Ministry of Economy, Finances and Industry.

From 1985 to 1995 in various positions at the Forecasting Directorate within the Ministry of Economy, he fulfilled several missions from conducting studies on foreign trade to being appointed deputy head, to head of Economic Forecasts then head of the Office for Economic Policies. These 10 years enabled him to gain a thorough knowledge of the Ministry.

While managing ENSAE between 1995 and 1997, he was appointed advisor to the Minister of Labor and Social affairs, specifically responsible for the social security statutory accounts and financing act.  From 1997 to 2001, Jean-Luc Tavernier returned to the Ministry of Economy as Deputy Director of the Forecasting Department in charge of public finances and the labor market.

He joined INSEE in 2001 as Director of Economic Studies and Analyses. In 2002 he went back to the Ministry of Economy where he was appointed Director of Forecasting, and between 2004 and 2005 as Director for Economic Policies within the Treasury Department.  He was then nominated CEO of the Central Office for Social Security Organisations and Vice President of the Employment Policy Council.

In June 2007, Jean-Luc Tavernier was appointed Principal Private Secretary of the French Ministry of Budget, Public Accounts and Civil Administration and, in January 2010, he became Deputy General Commissioner for Public Investment.

Since March 2012, he has taken up the position of Director General at INSEE.
