Olivier BLANCHARD

Bergsten Senior Fellow - Peterson Institute for International Economics

A citizen of France, Olivier Blanchard is a macroeconomist who has spent his professional life in the U.S.

He first taught at Harvard and then at MIT, where he was chairman of the economics department from 1998 to 2003.  From 2008 to 2015, he was appointed Chief Economist of the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

He is now the Fred Bergsten Senior Fellow at the Peterson Institute in Washington. He also remains Robert M. Solow Professor of Economics Emeritus at the MIT. He is the author of many books and articles, including two textbooks in macroeconomics at graduate level and undergraduate level.

He is a fellow and past council member of the Econometric Society, president-elect of the American Economic Association and a member of the American Academy of Sciences.
