Jörg HOFMANN
President - IG Metall
Since 2015, Jörg Hofmann is the President of IG Metall, the most influential union in Germany. IG Metall is also Germany’s as well as Europe’s largest industrial union. IG Metall represents the interests of more than 2.3 million members in the metal, steel, electrical, textile,wood and plastic sectors in Germany.
At first, Jorg Hofmann joined IG Metall as a trade union officer on collective bargaining and later on as the regional director of Baden-Wuerttemberg (Federal State of Germany) where he negotiated several groundbreaking collective agreements in a leading position.
Under his presidency, IG Metall reached a historical collective agreement in 2018 in which workers in the metal and electrical industry have started to organize towards more self-determined working hours.
The transition of work is driven by globalization, digitalization and climate change and Jorg Hofmann seeks to accompany this transition with the interests of the workers at heart. On a national level Mr. Hofmann is engaged in several steering groups led by the German government on the future of industry and work.
