David SYED
Head of the Sovereign practice - Dentons
As head of the Sovereign practice at Dentons, partner David Syed represents governments, sovereign wealth funds, and state-owned enterprises on complex finance transactions, transformation and litigation. David has extensive experience advising on capital markets and project finance transactions across many industry sectors including energy, mining, transportation, infrastructure and telecommunications. He has significant global experience, having worked in Europe, the Middle East, Asia, Africa and Latin America.
David joined Dentons in 2017 after having practiced Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe, (2002-2017) and Watson, Farley & Williams (1992-2002). He graduated from the University of Exeter in 1987 with a Master of Laws (LLM) in 1987 and the University of Reims (Bachelor of Laws – LLB 1984).
He was admitted to the Paris bar in 1991 and is also registered as a foreign lawyer in the United Kingdom. He is a Member Member of the Board of Advisors of Indego Africa, a NGO that supports women in Africa through economic empowerment and education (since 2017), a Director of Positive Planet UK, a NGO focused on developing economic, social and environmental inclusion around the world in a fair and sustainable way (since 2015) and a Member of the UK Board of Trustees for the cultural event Festival d’Aix en Provence (since 2010). In 2010 David was admitted to the National Order of the Legion of Honor in France.
