Founder & Chairman - Solar Impulse Foundation
Bertrand Piccard is currently the Chairman of the Solar Impulse Foundation.
In 2009, he initiated the Solar Impulse project which was to fly an airplane powered by solar energy across the world. Following successful experiments, Dr. Piccard launched in 2016, the second phase of the Solar Impulse vision: The World Alliance for Efficient Solutions. This new initiative aims to select 1000 creative solutions that protect the environment in a profitable way and bring them to decision makers at the COP24, encouraging the adoption of more ambitious environmental targets and energy policies.
Born into a family of explorers, Dr. Piccard has pushed boundaries with his round-the-world flights in Solar Impulse and a balloon. A trained psychiatrist, he challenges the status quo and advocates for an innovative and pioneering spirit to improve the quality of life on Earth for all.
Envisioning ecology through the lens of profitability, he urges for the uptake of clean technologies and efficient solutions because he believes they are logical rather than just ecological. With his dual identities as an explorer and a medical doctor, he has become an influential voice among distinguished institutions across the globe as a forward-thinking leader for progress and sustainability.
